The event will be broadcast by BarçaTV, BarçaTV+ and the Confederació Mundial de Penyes website, and will include a debate between the FC Barcelona presidential candida
After postponement due to the extension of the FC Barcelona presidential electoral process, the Supporters’ Clubs World Confederation will hold the 41st World Congress of Supporters’ Clubs on Sunday, February 28. As previously announced, this edition of the event, which would typically coincide with the Joan Gamper Trophy and bring together supporters’ clubs and fans from around the world, has been adapted to the current climate with a format designed to be followed electronically. The desire is to keep the whole Penyes movement in touch, despite the restrictions on mobility and social gatherings worldwide.
Through technology, the 41st World Congress of Supporters’ Clubs can be followed online. The event, which will begin at 10am CET, will be broadcast in its entirety by BarçaTV, BarçaTV+ and also on a stream on the Confederation’s website and Facebook page. The Confederation has decided to strictly respect the provisions of the health authorities to take care of all who take part.
“The challenge of connecting with supporters’ clubs in such complex times, as well as making our contribution to such an important electoral process for the Club, have encouraged the Penyes Council to make this decision. We don't want any virus to stop us," says Antoni Guil, president of the Confedetation.
Reviewing a season affected by Covid-19
In addition to explaining the running of the Supporters’ Clubs World Confederation during the 2019/20 season, the 41st edition of the World Congress of Supporters’ Clubs will recognise the actions and initiatives arising from the movement, to combat the consequences of the spread of Covid-19. Since the state of alarm was declared, the movement has collaborated with Food Banks and the Blood and Tissue Bank, and has made multiple financial and material donations to hospitals, charities and residences.
The event will also review all those activities that have continued to be carried out, with most of them readapted to the new circumstances. There will be a look at the future projects that will lead the continuous process of modernisation and sustainability of the Penyes.
Debate between FC Barcelona presidential candidates
The Congress arrives in the middle of the electoral campaign for the presidency of FC Barcelona, and only one week out from the date set for voting. The Confederation has organised, in collaboration with Seguiment FCB, a debate between the three presidential candidates. The aim is for this debate, which will occupy the second block of the Congress, to deal with various aspects related to the Club, with special emphasis on the Social Area.
"We want to offer candidates the chance to address all the supporters and members who will watch the Congress from home, and show them the projects that affect them most closely," says Antoni Guil. "The Confederation has been fully involved in the electoral process since it began last autumn: Firstly, organising meetings with all candidates to share information about future projects; Secondly then, making available more than 190 federation and supporters club premises available for the collection of signatures of support.”
