Talking to the supporters (PBCC Caracas)

Talking to Montserrat Ranera

Montserrat Ranera, a Catalan who lives in Venzuela and a peñista de la Penya Barcelonista Casal Catala de Caracas, dedicates much of her time to promoting Catalan culture wherever she goes, either teaching Catalan classes at the Center where she also works as member of the entity's board of directors or supporting theater, dance or cultural activities groups in Venezuela. Today we asked him about FC Barcelona and he answered us this:

Where were you born?

I was born in Barcelona, Catalunya

When did you come to Venezuela and why?

I came in 1982 invited by an aunt who lived here and I fell in love with the country and its people

Since when have you been a fan of FC Barcelona?

Lifelong. I think I was born with that shield in my blood

What do you remember of FC Barcelona with more affection?

What I remember most fondly are the games won against Real Madrid by a landslide and more if they were at the Santiago Bernabéu. But it also brings back many memories of my youth. She used to spend the summer very close to Montanyà, which was Cruyff's place of residence, and the entire colla (group of friends) would cycle through the mountains to her house to watch her ride a horse with her wife. That day we all had an adrenaline rush.

But in addition, FC Barcelona has many other sports disciplines and I remember that at 13 or 14 years old, I got up on Saturdays and Sundays at 6 in the morning to go learn to ice skating and I had a great time, although I never went very good at that sport.

Do you think that FC Barcelona is politicized by Catalan entities? - that you could tell us about it.

Not only for the Catalan entities. FC Barcelona is a great window to the world to publicize the political situation in Catalonia since Franco's time and many of the fans take advantage of all the opportunities we have to make our voice heard. I know that sports should not be mixed with politics, but the temptation and the opportunity are great. Nor should sports be mixed with annual renovations of the bathrooms in the Bernabéu dressing rooms and nobody complains.

Today you belong to the Peña Barcelonista de Caracas, but have you ever been part of any other Peña Barcelonista? Someone close to your environment towards life in a Barcelonista club.

No. It is the first time that I belong to a peña

Which FC Barcelona player do you remember most fondly? And if you could sign two former team players, who would you sign?

I remember Guardiola fondly. As for two former players, you should spend a lot of time thinking. Excellent players have passed through Barça throughout its history and it would be very unfair to have to choose only 2. For each position, there are a good number of candidates who deserve to be named.

Fc Barcelona has played countless games, but which game for you has been the most or the most exciting and why? - Do you have a cave or amulet that you consider lucky for FC Barcelona

Piqué's "handymen" against Real Madrid. Sergi Roberto's last goal (6-1) against PSG.

I don't believe much in charms but when Abidal goes out to the field, he gives me a good vibe.

You consider yourself an Anti-Madridista. Why or why not?

I consider myself anti Real Madrid and everything they have represented throughout the Franco regime and continue to represent or influence international decisions regarding the awards ceremony. Modric's Ballon d'Or was stolen from Griezmann (who still had not played for Barça) and Cristiano Ronaldo's last Ballon d'Or was not deserved either.

Who is for you the best player in the History of Soccer?

Messi, without a doubt. He's gifted.

You sympathize with another soccer team. Which one?

Manchester City (because of Guardiola).

What is FC Barcelona for you?

It is an extension of my identity and is part of my daily life

FC Barcelona is a SPORTS club. Do you follow any professional section such as Women's Soccer or Basketball?

Basketball.

You recently went to CAMP NOU, how was that experience, TV or GO TO THE FIELD, what do you stay with and why?

It was a disconcerting experience. It was the first time that I had been going since the implementation of the VAR and since I was sitting high up, I did not get to see Messi missing and the players did not complain much, so the game continued, a moment that Real Sociedad took advantage of to escape and try score a goal and suddenly, everything came to a standstill and all the players returned to the RS goal and I didn't understand anything, until I turned on the radio and saw that it was a VAR decision. I was glad that it was in our favor but it was a strange feeling. Thanks to that goal (to the slippage of Real Madrid) we placed first in the league.

On TV you see the plays more closely and you have the repetitions, but the emotion that exists in the field is not taken away by anyone.

Do you really think there is freedom of expression at Camp Nou?

Inside the field yes. Outside (when there was 155) no.

COVID-19 DID NOT LET US END THE SEASON, IT IS STILL PLANNED TO END IT AT ANY TIME. DO YOU THINK THAT FC BARCELONA WOULD HAVE BEEN A CHAMPION? AND IN THE CHAMPIONS?

I think he had possibilities like Real Madrid. Neither team was doing a good job in the League and both lacked quality in the game, but I would have bet with my eyes closed on Barcelona (which is also winning the League, no matter how much it hurts Florentino).

Select one of the options and comment your selection with a single word.

NEYMAR or LAUTARO: Neymar = EMOTION

It was exciting to have Messi, Neymar and Suárez as forwards. An almost unrepeatable luxury.

XAVI or INIESTA: Iniesta = EXCELLENCE

Very difficult choice. I don't know what would have happened to one without the other. I have unconditional love for Xavi for being a wonderful player from my homeland and enormous respect and admiration for Iniesta for leaving his skin and his life out of his homeland. Guardiola already told Xavi when Iniesta made his debut: "this one is going to retire us both" (and that's how it was). But I think that excellence goes to Iniesta.

PUYOL or PIQUE: Puyol = COMMITMENT

I am sure that Piqué has a chance to become president of Barça, but the daily, incessant struggle, without ever giving up to defend the team, is taken by Puyol.

ETO`O or HENRY: Henry = COMPANION

Both very good players, but it seems to me that Henry made more equipment.

VALVERDE or SETIEN: Valverde = SILENCE

I'm not enthusiastic about either of them. For Setien I have no feelings and for Valverde, I regret that he did not have the vision of knowing how to change the strategy that all the teams already knew. A shame.

BARTOMEU or LAPORTA: Laporta = VISION

Although I think none of them is clean wheat, I prefer Laporta's decision-making and the team that accompanies him.

VALDES or TER STEGEN: Valdés = UNDERVALUED

The best goalkeeper in the history of Barcelona and his retirement or farewell went under the door. I hope someone does it justice and gives it the due recognition.

CHAMPIONS or DOUBLETE (CUP AND LEAGUE): Champions = PROJECTION

For me, the Spanish King's Cup is out of my equation, because it belongs to Spain and between the League and the Champions League, the latter is more prestigious because you face the best teams from each of the European countries.
